HISTORY

After the occupation in 1968, a number of Czechoslovak compatriots went abroad, including Luxembourg. The beginnings in the new country were not easy, and in order to help and promote the interests of compatriots (especially the recognition of political asylum and citizenship), in 1972 FrantišekŠedý (appointed as the first chairman) founded an association with the support of Luxembourgers (especially JUDr. Robert Krieps, Minister of the Interior and Fernand Zurn under the name Association TGM Luxembourg. Later, the association mainly tried to promote Czechoslovakia through cultural events.

The interest of Luxembourgers grew especially after 1989, when the Association Tchecoslovaquie-Luxembourg was established. Tours to Czechoslovakia, concerts and other cultural events were organized, collections for charitable purposes were organized. After the division of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the association was renamed Amities tcheque et slovaque – Luxembourg.

In modern history, and especially after the Czech Republic joined the European Union, the reasons for compatriots coming to Luxembourg were different than before, and that is why today the mission of the expatriate association is mainly to organize concerts, exhibitions, festivals and other cultural events that enable the promotion of the Czech Republic and joint meetings of expatriates and locals friends.
